With hashtags being the trend of today’s weddings, we would vouch for this as one of the most creative hashtags with a twist of humor that we have come across. #BhagDinBhag (Translation: Run Dinesh Run)
Dinesh, who’s settled in Ghana and Bhagyaj, who’s from Mumbai, met through common friends. This fun and the quirky couple took no time to fall in love and want to spend the rest of their lives together.
Bhagyaj and Dinesh’s wedding was unique for everyone who attended it. We took the cliched four events of Mehendi, Sangeet, Pheras, and Reception that comes along with any Indian wedding to the next level by providing our guests with a thematic experience at each event.
Choosing Dubai as a destination wedding, especially during August, when the sun is at its peak, came to us as a challenge since outdoor venue spaces were out of the question.
We had to choose a hotel with enough indoor spaces and rooms to hold a wedding of 400 guests.
This lead to us in choosing JW Marriott Marquis as its one of the very few hotels with two ballrooms and has a bonus benefit of being proximate to the Dubai International Airport.
On this very first day of arrival, Bhagyaj and Dinesh wanted to meet and greet everyone personally at the welcome dinner that was held in the Emirates ballroom. A subtle decor of vintage theme and a Sufi night (Performer: Shahid Shabaz and band) as entertainment for the night was planned to head start the whole wedding where they also exchanged their rings while Shahid’s voice soothed the entire experience.
The Mehendi was held in Emirates ballroom again. Still, it was unrecognizable with an ultimate transformation of the space into an Indian carnival/Mela with props and elements that justified an otherwise outdoor experience indoors.
The heavy floral bridal swing, a bar that replicated a truck -Sharaab di Gaddi. (Translation: Mobile bar), a photo booth with colorful umbrellas and a scooter stationed for the guests with colorful takhats, poofs, and mini trucks as centerpieces along with activities such as giant Jenga, spin the wheel, and a beautifully printed dance floor provided the family all the entertainment they could ask for.
A tinge of luxury was added on with foot masseuses to relax the elderly and a balloon artist to keep the kids entertained.
We wouldn’t want to miss out on any age groups, do we?
Dinesh and Bhagyaj being a couple crazy about Bollywood, wished to share their love for the Bollywood world with everyone who attended their wedding and Sangeet night meant to fulfill this. We, as planners, made sure that this theme was loud and bright with a humongous customized photo booth – a collage of famous dialogues and pictures from Bollywood. The highlight of the event was a 4m high DJ booth from which our DJ (DJ Nitesh) overlooked the entire crowd and Sangeet night performances. Our bar was also customized and produced to match the theme. The black and gold furniture with film roles as centerpieces completed the whole look of space. The family didn’t require any entertainment for this night since this family of all fun, dance, and craziness was enough to keep the party going. They chose to narrate the couple’s story very creatively through a dance skit on this Sangeet night.
At last, the day everyone has been waiting for. This auspicious day started with Ghari pujas for both Bhagyaj and Dinesh, followed by their wedding that was held in the Emirates ballroom. Baraat came as a challenge to us since no vehicles were allowed inside the hotel. But ofcourse, we found the luggage trolley as a funny yet grand entrance for Dinesh, which served the purpose. The family welcomed him into the ballroom with non-stop dhol and dancing. The couple exchanged their wedding vows with utmost satisfaction and got married in the traditional Indian way.
The Emirates ballroom was partitioned in such a way that it could accommodate both functions. A classy setup overthrew the larger space for their reception with mirrors, chandeliers, and crystals. All guests were suited up for this event to congratulate the couple and have one last night of craziness before they bid their farewell. The reception ended with a fantastic performance showcased by ROOH-a Dubai based music band (Performer: Anupam Nair and band), which genuinely touched everyone’s Rooh. (Translation: Soul)
